The containers used in our system are recycled clear-span, 20’ steel box frames, which are structurally reinforced to meet current building codes.

DIY your own jail cells

Corrections has yet to respond to Collins on the proposal for shipping-container cells, which she said would “be spartan but humane and clean.
But Collins said the shipping containers would provide a better standard of housing than some of the country’s older prisons such as Auckland’s Mt Eden and Wellington’s Mt Crawford.
The shipping containers would give prison authorities more flexibility in managing the inmate population.
Auckland, Rimutaka and Hastings were the immediate pressure points, and the intention would be to put the containers on land next to existing prisons, effectively increasing the bed-count.
Opposition corrections spokesman Clayton Cosgrove accused Collins of playing popular politics and said the proposal would create more tension for prison officers.

Shipping containers recycled into dream homes

The three-bedroom house of architect Bernard Morin and wife Joyce Labelle, which is made up of seven shipping containers, is shown in St. Adele, Quebec.
A Quebec architect and his wife have transformed seven old steel shipping containers into a contemporary architectural gem in Ste. Adele, Que., and are hoping now to build a business out the project.
The home is the first project of Joyce Labelle and Bernard Morin’s company Maison Idekit Home, and the first of its kind in Quebec.

Shipping container sports hall
By · CommentsDunraven Secondary School’s hall, which took just three months to build, developed as part of Lambeth Council’s Building Schools for the Future project. Some 30 shipping containers were used to create the three-storey structure which includes a full sized basketball court, viewing galleries, and two changing rooms.
Head teacher David Boyle said: “It is inspirational, and provides services to the pupils that have long been needed.”
Green features include a rainwater harvesting system, motion sensor controlled lighting, and a weather controlled heating system.

Home sweet cargo container

Glassberg’s house is one of only a few container homes in the United States. The shipping containers are standard dimensions at 40 feet long and 8 feet wide. But Glassberg’s containers are taller than the typical 8 feet.
