It turned out to be a big success among students in Amsterdam and it is now the second most popular student dormitory offered by the student housing corporation “De Key” (www.dekey.nl) in Amsterdam (and they have many).

Containers to Clinics is a collaborative effort between doctors, architects, non-profits, and donors. We can accomplish so much when we work together. With the help of the nonprofit C2C and volunteers armed with ArchiCAD, steel boxes are transformed into health-care facilities for resource-strapped communities.

Anshen + Allen performed the work pro bono to support the nonprofit organization Containers to Clinics (C2C), which delivers primary health care to women and children in the developing world.

According to Anshen + Allen, the project was completed in one-third the time that it would have required if the designers had relied on 2D software instead of 3D. In addition to material, profile, window, and rendering tools in ArchiCAD, Anshen + Allen also used ArtLantis to produce renderings.

Elizabeth Sheehan, executive director of C2C is a trained physicians assistant, and while working in clinics and hospitals in countries like Nepal, India and Indonesia, she saw the need for improved access to preventive health care.

Then last year, Sheehan read an article titled “The Global Health Burden” in Foreign Affairs magazine, in which health economist Laurie Garrett highlighted the lack of preventive health care in developing countries and laid out a solution: convert shipping containers into health clinics for use there.

“Shipping Containers litter the world,” Sheehan says, “they’re often used once and they sit there.” Sheehan founded the group Containers to Clinics, or C2C, that turns the containers into health clinics.

Introducing Boxman Studios, a revolutionary new way to host events using the latest in recycled technology – shipping containers. That’s right, we custom fabricate these dinosaurs of logistics and outfit them with all the modern-day comforts. From seating for nearly 30 guests to a double-sided bar, solar powered electrical hookup and 500 square feet of covered space, we deliver our venues virtually anywhere and handle all the set up and break down (which takes only about 20 minutes.) Bam! – instant party. Just add people.
